Many websites nowadays are full of “amazing” (rarely in a good way) ads that jump at me from all sides and surprise me with sound, video, covering content or other methods to get in my face.
Maybe they or the people that pay for ads in such places don’t realize that:
- Some such sites become so slow or annoying that I give up before they finish loading
- If, for some reason I don’t give up, I am fighting for my sanity, closing ads as fast as I can so I don’t see what’s in the ads.
- I am more and more convinced that sites with good content don’t need to be so obnoxious, so when I’m hit by the wall of ads I quickly move away because I don’t expect anything worthwhile there.
I can understand that advertising needs to happen, but it has a better chance of my goodwill if less obtrusive.
What do you think?
